Project Overview

BrightField converts a 40-hectare former landfill into generation. Contaminated land cannot carry foundations or be disturbed below cap level, which rules out conventional mounting — the whole project is an exercise in building on ground that cannot be dug.

What we provide:

  • Contaminated land assessment and permitting
  • Ballasted mounting design
  • Cap integrity monitoring
  • Grid connection and export design
  • Ecology and habitat management planning
  • Community consultation

Our Approach
Our platform and services are designed to make eco-conscious transformation simple, scalable, and transparent.

The design uses ballasted frames bearing on the existing cap, with settlement monitoring built into the array structure so movement is detected before it becomes a fault. Cable routing runs above cap level in ducting rather than trenched. Permitting took longer than the build, which is normal for this class of site and was planned for from the outset.

Technology Used

BrightField demonstrates that closed landfill is viable generation land rather than a permanent liability — a conclusion the trust has since applied to two further sites in its portfolio.

  • 22 MW on land with no alternative development use
  • Zero cap penetrations across the array
  • Settlement monitoring integrated into the mounting system
  • Wildflower establishment across the inter-row area
