Budget Analyst

About The Role

Sustainability work lives or dies on whether the numbers hold up. As Budget Analyst you will own the financial model behind our project portfolio — building the cases, tracking them against actuals, and telling us early when a programme is drifting.

Key Responsibilities

You will work across programme delivery, finance and the leadership team, and much of the value is in the questions you ask before a commitment is made rather than the reports you produce afterwards.

• Build and maintain annual and multi-year budgets across the project portfolio.
• Model the cost and return of proposed installations, including grant and incentive structures.
• Track spend against forecast and explain variance to programme leads.
• Prepare board-level reporting on portfolio performance.
• Support procurement with supplier cost analysis and contract review.
• Maintain the capital plan and flag financing decisions before they become urgent.

What We're Looking For

Someone comfortable being the person who says a business case does not work. Formal accounting training is welcome but not required; a demonstrated ability to build a model somebody else can audit matters more.

You should have

• Three or more years in budgeting, FP&A or project finance.
• Strong spreadsheet modelling and a habit of documenting assumptions.
• Experience with capital projects or infrastructure financing.
• Clear written communication for non-financial readers.
